Tutors and technicians deepen their understanding of enamelling
Over two days in September 2016 seven tutors and technicians in silversmithing, jewellery and metalwork joined us at the Goldsmiths’ Centre for a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course to deepen their understanding of enamelling. This event was part of the wider programme associated with the British Society of Enamellers upcoming exhibition Enamoured at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, which opens on Wednesday 12 October 2016.
Participants travelled from across the UK to take part in the CPD event, with representatives attending from Sheffield Hallam University, University of Dundee, Richmond Adult and Community College, Birmingham City University, De Montfort University Leicester and Glasgow School of Art.
Innovative enamel artist, Elizabeth Turrell, and contemporary jewellery designer and enameller, Sheila McDonald, taught the session and demonstrated enamelling techniques including wet process enamels and mark making on copper and steel; and how to produce contemporary work on silver and copper, using traditional and contemporary techniques.
