Open Call for Shine 2021, the Online New Talent Showcase in Jewellery and Silversmithing

The Goldsmiths’ Centre is delighted to launch the first open call to take part in Shine 2021, an annual new talent showcase in jewellery and silversmithing.

Up and coming UK designer makers, who are in their first five years of running a business and have developed a new collection, will be given the unique opportunity to participate in an intensive, online skills training programme, delivered by the Goldsmiths’ Centre. Specifically tailored to their needs, the training will cover all key aspects of how jewellers and silversmiths should best present themselves and their work in person and online, culminating in an online showcasing opportunity.

Hand-picked by an internal and external selection panel, the up to fifteen successful Shine 2021 exhibitors will be able to present their new collections to potential consumers, buyers and the wider industry through the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s online shop, Goldsmiths’ Shop Talent, social media channels and special Meet the Maker events.

Past Shine exhibitors have included jewellers Ella Fearon-Low, Caitlin Hegney, Harriet Morris, William Sharp and silversmiths Suzanne Seed, Katie Watson and Heidi Carthew.

“The Goldsmiths’ Centre is a charity that supports creative and talented emerging makers offering a platform to thrive, connect and collectively grow skills and businesses. This year we have widened access to our programmes, and the number of individuals that we support through them, in recognition of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the marketplace and early career opportunities.”

– Charlotte Dew, Public Programme Manager at the Goldsmiths' Centre

Being part of Shine provided me with a fantastic platform to reach new types of customers and build my profile within the industry. The training we did on selling jewellery and silver was amongst the most useful and practical I have ever received and was the perfect chance to hone our skills before the ‘Meet the Maker’ events around the Goldsmiths’ Fair. A fabulous experience and one that has helped me step my work up a level and to feel more confident about my practice.

Applications open tomorrow (19 May 2021) and close on Monday 21 June 2021. For more information and to apply for Shine 2021, click below:
