In Pictures: The Goldsmiths' Company Apprentices Freedom Ceremony in February 2020
On Wednesday, six Goldsmiths' Company Apprentices were made free at a Freedom Ceremony at Goldsmiths' Hall in London.
These ceremonies are an almost 700-year-old tradition, marking the endpoint of an apprenticeship. Each apprentice showcases a 'masterpiece' to the Prime Wardens of the Goldsmiths' Company, a piece intended to demonstrate the skills that they have developed during their time as an apprentice. From there, they are unbound from their Masters, ready to become craftspeople of their own.
Five of the six apprentices who took part in the ceremony initially completed their first year of training on the Goldsmiths' Centre's Foundation Programme and all continued to visit the Centre as part of their day release training throughout their apprenticeship.
