Ursae Ltd. is a freelance design & manufacturing company based in London & South Cambridgeshire. Fuelled by the creative minds of award winning designers and makers Benjamin James Ryan & Rupert Todd the company specialises in producing exquisite products designed to stand the test of time. The company’s design expertise encompasses a large range of disciplines from small luxury items for the home and body, up to architectural installations, exterior and interior design projects, as well as specialising in public art.
In recent years the company has produced work for an array of clients including individuals, livery companies and councils, to corporate enterprises, trusts and royalty.
With a base in the Goldsmiths’ Centre in the heart of Clerkenwell, London, meeting to discuss projects in the capital or just outside is ideal. Ursae Ltd. also has a large workshop and design studio in Cambridgeshire where the vast majority of its manufacturing work is carried out.
The core values of Ursae are excellence in beauty and function. With the skill, technology and artistry available to Ursae, it is always the aim to produce the best possible piece to fit the project brief, whatever that may be.
Ursae takes its name from the stars of the constellation Ursa Major. According to ancient Greek myth, Ursa Major is the transformed nymph Adrasteia, who nursed Zeus as a child. As the first recorded goldsmith, she created for Zeus a miraculous golden orb, with a fiery trail, the like of which could not even be bettered by Hephaistos, god of smiths. Likewise, Ursae aim to produce flawless creations, and to take forward in all their work that legacy of the first goldsmith, striving for perfection.
