Creative Links: Applying for Success - What makes a good application?

Funding and grant opportunities, residencies, studios and other career openings often require the completion of an application or the submission of a proposal that articulates your aptitude and abilities. This event considers how can you best stand out and be successful when seeking to be selected.

Who are the speakers?

As Head of Business Incubation at Cockpit Arts, David Crump and his team provide business support through a comprehensive programme of workshops and one-to-one coaching with the aim of helping each business identify and develop a sustainable model for themselves. He also leads Cockpit Arts’ consultancy service, working with partners in the UK and overseas on projects such as craft sector and social enterprise development. Alongside his role with Cockpit Arts, David retains his interest in sustainable jewellery production, being the founder member of the UK group Fair Luxury and an advisory board member of Ethical Metalsmiths in the USA. He is also an Alumni Fellow of Nottingham Business School, part of Nottingham Trent University.

Bryony Windsor joined Arts Council England (ACE) in July 2018 as Relationship Manager, Visual Arts, Midlands, providing development and funding advice to the cultural sector. Bryony has a background is visual arts, specialising in craft and design which she studied at university. Prior to joining ACE, Bryony was Head of Exhibitions at the National Centre for Craft & Design, and Assistant Director at Scotland’s oldest commercial gallery, The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh.

Jon Opie is Deputy Director of Jerwood Arts, the leading independent funder for UK artists, curators and producers. For Jerwood Arts, he leads on grant making and operations, and has recently worked on funding opportunities such as the Live Work Fund, 1:1 Fund and Jerwood Compton Poetry Fellowships. He has also worked alongside colleagues delivering the Jerwood Art Fund Makers Open and other commissioning opportunities for visual artists realised at Jerwood Arts' gallery at Jerwood Space and on tour nationally. Previously, he

was the Administrator for the Independent Theatre Council and Development Manager for Hampstead Theatre. He is also a Trustee of Cardboard Citizens Theatre Company, has a MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy from Goldsmiths College, and participated in the Clore Leadership Programme Short Course in 2017.
