Costing and pricing your work is one of the most challenging aspects of being a small jewellery or silversmithing business. If you price your pieces too low, you may make a lot of sales, but be left with little profit. Price them too high and they may not sell at all. So how do you go about pricing your latest piece or collection?

Jon East, business development specialist, will provide you with tools and skills to cost and price your work, along with consumer insights from research undertaken by the Goldsmiths’ Company. This business growth workshop is specifically tailored to jewellers and silversmiths selling their work primarily in the UK; and will offer group and individual exercises to open discussion and transform theory into practice.

Key topics studied include:

  • The importance of costing and pricing
  • How to cost your time and your work
  • How do consumers value your pieces, and how can you influence this?
  • Pricing strategies – which is right for you?
  • Why costing and pricing should be part of your design process
  • Factors affecting your profit margins
  • What do Fine Jewellery and Contemporary Silver consumers buy, how much do they spend, and how often?

A 3.5% booking fee applies on all bookings and credit card transactions. Please note that we cannot provide refunds or exchanges.

You can also book via phone or at the reception desk at the Goldsmiths' Centre (EC1M 5AD). Please call 020 7566 7650 or email boxoffice@goldsmiths-centre.org to book or for more information.

Jon East is a business consultant who has worked with the Jewellery Industry over the past 20 years. Through the Goldsmiths’ Centre, he has taught and mentored jewellery and silversmithing businesses through all aspects of business planning, and has supported them to put their plans into action and take new products to market.

With a wealth of industry market research experience, most recently for the Goldsmiths’ Company into consumers of Fine Jewellery and Contemporary Silver, Jon has a unique insight into consumer spending habits, patterns and preferences. This enables him to provide guidance and advice to designers and makers about the ‘demand’ side of the market as well as the ‘supply’ side.
